You Can Sit with Us

It was lunchtime on her first day of middle school….and she’d been assigned lunch with a different grade. As she looked for a seat in the sea of older kids, she heard someone call her name: “Kate! You can sit with us.”

It was Sarah Addison, the big sister of one of Kate’s friends, who spotted her across the cafeteria and who knew how that must feel.

But there was not an empty seat at their table.

“You guys,” she told her friends, “We have to make room for Kate.” And with that, Sarah Addison made the whole group get up and move to a bigger table.

This was years ago and Sarah Addison probably doesn’t remember this day, but as Kate’s mom, I always will. I love her heart for including others and her understanding that if your table’s not big enough, you build a bigger table.

The idea of “you can sit with us” really cattires the spirit of Wild Chicory. We are about encouragement and community, striving for the best in ourselves and bringing out the best in others. We want to live life with intention and open arms, making friends along the way and celebrating our friendships together.
